HANDY HINTS TO SAVE YOU MONEY ...

GARAGE / CARPORT
1.     If your garage or carport is very narrow, fix a piece of old carpet, carpet tile or foam to the wall or pillars
at the place where the door of your car is most likely to touch when opening.  This will avoid scratches to
        the doors.
2.     Stick bicycle reflectors to each gatepost and either side of the garage entrance to avoid scraping the car
        when driving in.
GARLIC
This is the most superior antiseptic - many health problems arise because of toxic build-up in the system.  It is good for lymphatic systems and aids elimination of noxious waste matter.  Garlic is used for all kinds of lung ailments - in fact, it is healing all parts of the body ... the skin, lungs, glands, heart and stomach.

1.     Add olive oil to the jar to keep them moist and the oil can be used for garlic flavoured dressings.
2.     To remove the skin easy from garlic, microwave on HIGH allowing about 30 seconds per clove.
3.     To remove the smell of garlic from breath, eat some fresh parsley.
4.     To remove the smell of garlic from hands, put your fingers on the handle of a stainless steel spoon.  Run
cold water over fingers while rubbing gently.

Add garlic immediately to a recipe if you want a subtle taste - and towards the end to blast it with flavour.

For your health ...
  • Asthma  -  Three cloves of garlic, boiled in milk every night, or 1 whole pod peeled and boiled in 120 ml malt or apple vinegar, strained and cooled with honey.
  • Arthritis and Rheumatism  -  Eat the garlic clove or apply garlic oil to affected areas.
  • Chest Diseases  -  Garlic can be used with great success to heal ailments like Tuberculosis and Pneumonia.
  • Heart  -  Garlic helps to break up the cholesterol in the blood vessels.  It may not repair the damage done, but will minimise the chances of future heart attacks.
  • High Blood Pressure  -  Two - three capsules of cloves of garlic per day can help to lower blood pressure.
  • Skin Disorders  -  Pimples and boils can disappear with a scar when rubbed with raw garlic.  Taken orally, garlic will purify the blood which will then help clear the skin.

GLASS
  • A small nick in the rim of a glass can be smoothed out with an emery board.
  • Put a teaspoon in your glass before pouring bolding water into the glass.  This will stop it from cracking.
GLASS COFFEE POTS
To clean a glass coffee-pot, drop half a dozen ice cubes into it and sprinkle with salt.  Swish around gently until clean.
GLASS DOORS
To prevent anyone from mistaking a closed sliding-glass door for an open one, apply decorative transfers at adult and child eye-levels.
GLASS ON PICTURES
Carefully dust the glass and then polish with spectacle-cleaning tissues.  Try to avoid liquid cleaners because they could seep under the edge of the glass and spoil the picture.  If you do use liquid cleaners, apply them to a cloth, never directly to the glass.
GOGGLES
Keep goggles from fogging up:
  • Spray the inside of the lenses with furniture polish, then wipe clean.
  • Spray the inside of the lenses with shaving ream, then wipe clean.
  • Rub a cut raw potato over your goggle glass to keep them clean and misty free.
GRATER
Rinse your cheese grate under cold water before use.  The cheese will grate more easily.
GREASE IN COOKING
To take away the fat from your soups and stews whilst they are cooking, drop a few ice cubes into the put and stir.  The fat then clings to the cubs and you can throw away the cubes before they melt.
GREASE STAINS
If the stain is fresh, sprinkle thickly with baking powder - leave for a few minutes and then brush it off.
