HANDY HINTS TO SAVE YOU MONEY ...

RICE
1.      Ideally, serve rice as soon as it has been cooked.
2.      If that is not possible, cool the rice as quickly as possible (best within one hour).
3.      Keep rice in the refrigerator for no more than one day until reheating.
4.      When you reheat any rice, always check that the dish is steaming hot all the way through.
5.      Do not reheat rice more than once.
6.      Rice can be reheated in the microwave by adding one tablespoon of water, stock, wine or a knob of
butter.  This will prevent the rice from drying out.
7.     For those hard-to-clean bottles, fill the bottle half full of warm water and add one or two tablespoons of
uncooked rice.  Seal the top and give it a good and vigorous shake for a few minutes.  Repeat until clean.
8.      Keep salt running freely by adding a few grains of rice to the sale cellar.

RINSING
to remove soap from clothing or from hair, rinse with a tablespoonful of white vinegar added to the water.

ROASTING MEAT
1.     Before roasting beef or lamb, place half a pint of cold water into the baking tray.  This lessens shrinkage,
keeps the joint succulent and provides tock for the gravy.
2.     If you wish roast beef to be both rare and well done for the tastes of your guests, place aluminium foil over
one end.  The foil end will be rare and the other end will be well cooked.

ROSE BUSHES
Place the banana skins at the base of your rose bushes.  the roses like the potassium.

RUBBER BANDS
  • Wrap rubber bands around the ends of coat hangers to prevent dresses and tops from slipping off.
  • Wrap a rubber band around the lid of a jar to help you unscrew the jar.

RUGS
1.     Hang rugs on a washing line and beat with a tennis racquet.  Beat the wrong side first.
2.     Place rugs and mats in the sun on the patio, right side down, to kill off flea eggs etc.

2.     Cut a potato and dip it in backing powder.  Rub away the rust.

4.     To remove rust from car bumpers, rub with aluminium foil dipped in coca cola.
