WATER SAFETY
Boating
  • Set a good example.
  • Formulate an emergency plan before you leave the shore.
  • Travel at a safe and comfortable speed.
  • Ensure children are sitting down at all times.
Life jackets are essential - make sure that they are Standards Approved, that they fit properly and are worn all the time in the boat.
DON'T ...
  • Go out alone in a boat with children - there should be a minimum of two adults on board.
  • Leave the children to go out boating with someone of limited experience.
  • Drink alcohol
Swimming Pools
Learn how to do cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • Ensure that non-swimmers are wearing arm bands.
  • Do not have rubber tyres in the pool with non-swimmers.  The tyres could be thrown over a non-swimmers head and rest on the armbands.
Pool fencing laws are not in evidence in many countries
In the Hotel 
  • Never leave young children alone in the bath - it only takes seconds for them to slip over and drown.  
  • Put a non-slip mat in the bath.
  • Don't leave buckets unattended for a minute.
  • Keep the toilet lid down and the toilet door shut.
Children are not just drowning in swimming pools and paddling pools. The bath, the toilet and buckets can also be death traps.
