HANDY HINTS TO KEEP YOU HEALTHY ...

THE NATURAL REMEDY NOTEBOOK

Three Amazing Doctors in Nature
BANANAS
The banana is one of nature's finest gifts.  Available throughout the year, its package is germ-proof and is resistant to the invasion of bacteria.  It is not only a food source, but it also serves as a medicine.  the banana has a rare combination of energy value, tissue building elements, protein, vitamins and minerals.

The banana has a high caloric value, one large fruit contains over 100 calories.  An under-ripe banana is starch, while an over-ripe one is a sucrose.  It has a high content of easily assimilable sugars which make it a good source of quick energy.

The minerals in bananas are:
  • Calcium
  • Magnesium
  • Phosphorous
  • Sulphur
  • Iron
  • Copper
It contributes to the alkalinity of the blood and, when combined with milk, it makes an excellent food source for growing children.

The vitamin content of a banana is high, containing:
  • Vitamins A, B, C, G and E
Because of its high Vitamin C content, it ranks second only to an orange as a preventative to scurvy.  Due to its high Vitamin A and Calcium content, a banana is excellent for the eyes and teeth.

Banana's low protein and salt content, along with its high carbohydrates, make it useful in a diet of patients with kidney disease and its soft texture and blandness are a value in the treatment of intestinal disorders.  The iron content makes it useful for patients suffering anaemia.

ALOE VERA
For over 3,500 years, tales of 'healing Aloe Vera plants' have been handed down.  The idea of the 'magic medicine plant' could come from the enzymatic action within the gel that, seemingly, aids in the growth of healthy new cells.  With its ability to penetrate the layers of the skin fast, Aloe Vera gel seems to have an amazing ability in giving quick pain relief, both topically and below the skin.  Some of the healing situations are:

Burns and Scalds
Perhaps the most well know application for Aloe Vera.  Simply apply the gel immediately to burns and scalds for soothing relief.

Scars
Apply Aloe Vera gel to the scar to help diminish it.  This could take several months of use before you notice results.  It helps with both old scars - and new ones if applied to cuts and burns immediately.

First Aid
For muscle, joint and ligament bruising and swelling, apply liberally (massaging into affected areas where appropriate).  Apply as required.
GARLIC

This is the most superior antiseptic - many health problems arise because of toxic build-up in the system.  It is good for lymphatic systems and aids elimination of noxious waste matter.  Garlic is not only good when one is unwell, but is also good taken regularly as a preventative measure.  Try some for skin complaints, pimples, stomach and intestinal disorders, fevers, rheumatism, hypertension and hay fever.

For centuries, garlic has been used to treat colds, coughs and sore throats.  It is used for all kinds of lung ailments - in fact, it is healing all parts of the body ... the skin, lungs, glands, heart and stomach.

Asthma
Three cloves of garlic, boiled in milk every night, or 1 whole pod peeled and boiled in 120 ml malt or apple vinegar, strained and cooled with honey.

Arthritis and Rheumatism
Eat the garlic clove or apply garlic oil to affected areas.

Chest Diseases
Garlic can be used with great success to heal ailments like Tuberculosis and Pneumonia.

Heart
Garlic helps to break up the cholesterol in the blood vessels.  It may not repair the damage done, but will minimise the chances of future heart attacks.

High Blood Pressure
Two - three capsules of cloves of garlic per day can help to lower blood pressure.

Skin Disorders
Pimples and boils can disappear without a scar when rubbed with raw garlic.  Taken orally, garlic will purify the blood which will then help clear the skin.
