Arrive at the airport early
  • Allow a minimum of three and a half hours for parking, walking, checking in and security screening.
  • Consider travelling with a companion who understands your problem.
  • Expect to be nervous, excited and uneasy.  Take deep breaths.  Stand, stretch and move about.
  • Select a seat near the front of the plane, where it is quieter and smoother.
  • Be sociable.
  • Yawn and smile at someone.
  • Follow the safety demonstration.
  • Breathe deeply as the plane lines up for take off.
  • Lean back in your set.
  • Keep your eyes open during take off (take off only takes 35-40 seconds).
  • Do not grip the arms of the seat - this will make you more tense.
  • Wiggle your toes faster and faster.
  • Listen for the sound of the landing gear being retracted and accept that the strange sounds and movements of the plane are normal.
  • Remember the plane is built like a battleship and can cope with turbulent air conditions.
  • Remember that the pilot and his crew want to get to the destination also, so will endeavour to make the flight as safe as possible.
  • Keep your seat belt fastened at all times.
  • If wishing to sleep, place seat belt on top of your blanket in order not to be disturbed by staff.
  • Fly sober.
