MINERAL GUIDE

CALCIUM
Works with vitamin D to promote healthy bones, teeth and nerves.  Deficiency can cause Osteoporosis in older people. Particularly important for breast-feeding mothers.

Rich Mineral Sources
Parmesan cheese, cheddar cheese, spinach, brie and soft cheeses, parsley and dried figs.

IRON
Essential for the formation of haemoglobin and to carry oxygen.  Vegans, vegetarian and children may be deficient.

Molasses, bran, wheatgerm, parsley, soya flour, dried peaches.

COPPER
Formation of melanin, the skin pigment.  Maintenance of enzyme systems.  Ensures healthy body tissues.

IODINE
Needed by the thyroid gland for production of the hormone thyroxine, which controls the rate of metabolism.

MAGNESIUM
Helps synthesis of protein and fats and use of calciu,, potassium, sodium and Vitamin B6.  Maintains a healthy heart beat.

POTASSIUM
Acts with sodium to regulate the body fluids, maintains the acid / alkali balance and to transport nerve impulses to the muscles.

ZINC
Essential for enzyme action.  Aids vision and bone growth.
